If you are a beginner I can teach you the essential skills in technique to lay a firm foundation for successful development. From there you can learn how to play your favourite riffs and songs and begin to understand the fretboard and how music works, from electric and blues to acoustic and jazz. You will need your own guitar to practice on at home and I will teach you an effective practice method. I do have a guitar you are welcome to use if you are still choosing your first guitar or don't wish to travel with your own. I've written an article guitar lessons for beginners in my blog explaining my original approach to getting you started so please take a look.
"I find the lessons stimulating, interesting, and dynamic. David is passionate about music, articulate, thoughtful and kind. He has an abundance of experience and knowledge. I feel each lesson is tailored to my progress, so no stone is left unturned. David is funny and extremely astute, super-bright, and firm. I am given homework to practice most weeks, which is monitored in the following class. I really enjoy my lessons with him and I feel very fortunate to have found him as my guitar teacher and the beauty of having online guitar lessons is that you can be anywhere in the world to progress!". - P. Arabella.
For an intermediate level student it may be time to learn some music theory and how it translates to the guitar fretboard. Understanding the language of theory will enable you to make sense of what you are playing as well as enabling you to work many things out for yourself so is extremely self empowering. I thoroughly recommend this as it opens up whole new worlds in terms of musical possibilities and options as well as fuelling creativity. Other intermediate steps may be to work on material that advances your technique to a higher level or to learn solo guitar arrangements of your favourite tunes incorporating the melody and harmony into a single piece. I can explain all you need to know in a very clear, easy to understand manner.
Advanced classes tend to be focused on a deeper exploration of theory, jazz concepts and improvisation. Topics covered could include chord voicings and inversions, modes, chromaticism, triads, spread triads and triad pairs, applying melodic minor modes, quartal harmony, chord superimposition, soloing on major and minor 11- V -1 progressions, advanced use of pentatonics, octave displacement, playing 'outside' and much more, of course the list can go on and on. Contemporary guitar is forever evolving and is both challenging and fascinating. It really can be a never ending path, there's always something new to learn and things to work on!. Wherever you may be along your guitar playing journey I believe I have the knowledge, experience and insight to inspire you to reach new musical heights and achieve your goals.
